Mountaintop Climb is a 3D level created for a school project in Unreal Engine 4.27. The purpose was to design a fun and creative level using specific design principles (light, contrast, and negative space). I used light to emphasize important objects, like the buttons, to draw the player's attention to them. I also used a different, contrasting mesh for the platforms to differentiate them from the surrounding environment. I used Unreal's geometry brushes and primitives along with an additional asset from the store: ZeOrb's SuperGrid Starter Pack.

Overview: The player has been on a long search for an ancient weapon. Guided by a spirit, the player has been collecting spherical keys and has reached the location of the final key and ancient weapon. For this level, the player follows their spirit guide into a large cavern and finds three platforms that can move by pressing a button. The player will use these platforms to climb up and out of the cavern. Following the path, they will find the second cavern, which once again has platforms and buttons that the player can utilize to get out of the cavern and find the key. Following the final path will lead the player to the ancient weapon.

Script: I scripted much of the level in addition to blocking out and creating the landscape. I used the geometry brushes to create the unique shapes of the caverns, mountain paths, and platforms. I then created static meshes for the platforms. The script for this level revolved primarily around the buttons and platforms, ensuring that they moved to the correct locations when the buttons were pushed, or cycled up and down depending on the platform. I also created the two cinematics for the level (intro and outro) using the level and master sequencers. Lastly, I scripted a couple of box triggers for hints and the ability for the player to place the final key on the podium.
